How are the new you resolutions going? I am trying to be good but it is very difficult!
I am never going to be a gym lover. In fact, I am an exercise hater. I only do it so I can eat more and that’s just at the moment with my “lean in 15” diet where you can only have carbs if you exercise. Apparently the key to success is finding an exercise you love and that way you will keep it up. No hope for me then! Any excuse (usually work and childcare related) and I avoid the gym at all costs!
Top tips if you’re short of time
So here are my tips if you are trying to be good but up against it. Let’s face it working full time and then planning a wedding doesn’t leave much time. Throw in something else like studying as well (which a lot of our brides often are) will leave you with little extra. My top tip is keep it simple. Invest in a pedometer and build more activity into your daily life. Its amazing if you have been sat at a desk all day how mentally tired you can be – but no steps on the clock is quite a reality check about your lifestyle.
Warm up and rope someone else in!
Before you do anything like a workout dvd or anything more strenuous than a brisk walk with the dog then try to warm up. Feeling guilty and jumping straight from the desk and onto the runner can lead to injury and take you out of action completely so build up gradually, whether you’re going on a goa yoga teacher training course or just doing some regular exercise.
Maybe try HIIT – high-intensity interval training if you are short on time as well. It is a bit too enthusiastic for me but seems very popular. If you’re going to be trying a HIIT workout, warming up is essential. I did one once and I had to buy an Elbow Sleeve because my elbows were causing me that much pain! WARM-UPS ARE KEY! Google has loads of demos but basically it is short intense bursts of exercise followed by short bursts of recovery time. Saving you hours of going to the gym and no membership fees or special equipment required!
Finally rope in your fiancée or a good friend. Having a partner in crime helps motivate you and helps you to stick to a routine!
Good luck …
