Creating the perfect table plan for your amazing Cheshire wedding takes great planning and knowing your guests and venue very well. Our three key factors will get you well on your way to becoming a table planning pro!
Before sending out invites always check your chosen venues capacity. Having to un-invite WILL make for some awkward future encounters!
Once you have checked your venues capacity you will need to see the shape and size of your function room, in addition to the shapes and size of the tables and chairs being used. Some venues require bigger, fuller tables while some will use smaller tables with less seated at each. Knowing the layout of your room is half the battle and also the theme and atmosphere you want to create. For instance medieval banqueting style wedding breakfasts are becoming more popular.
Also make sure you are aware of entrances/exits and guest flow for the day. Do you have any friends or family members that will need room for a pram to house a sleeping baby next to them for example. Where will you be making your formal entrance to the wedding breakfast? Can that accommodate lots of space for you, your new husband and your dress to make the most of this important photo opportunity?
Top table is often made up of bride and groom along with their children, parents, best men and head bridesmaids. However occasionally our chosen couples decide to stick to the traditional and opt for a centre stage table for two. While this is perfectly acceptable nowadays with such complex and diverse family units you will need to make sure mum and dad have the next best seats!
Also should this top table be formal and long, facing into the room for maximum interaction with the guests? Or round and informal to just seem like one of the crowd within the room?
The perfect balance
While we want our guests to mingle there is nothing more daunting than finding out you have been seated at a table made up of 8 strangers. Balance is key!
For example, every family and group of friends have their very own ‘party animals’. Let’s face it tequila shots don’t quite go down the same while having a staring match with a toddler across the table!
You will also want to consider any elderly guests or even pregnant guests attending. The table plan should gel together naturally. Last but not least make sure anyone that requires a wheelchair has a clear passage to the nearest exits and lavatories.
However you put together your table plan remember not to stress. Edits can be made. It is very rare your first draft will be identical to your final plan. So have lots of fun and take it all in your stride!
